Foreign payments and currencies
Plan currency, intermediaries, and settlement before you pay abroad
Foreign payments involve currency selection, beneficiary bank requirements, and settlement windows that differ by corridor. Confirm what currency the beneficiary expects before you instruct from Online Banking.
Choosing the wrong currency is a common reason for delayed credit or conversion at the receiving bank. Intermediary banks may also apply charges that reduce the amount finally credited.
Pair this guidance with multi-currency account management and international wire transfers.
- Send in the beneficiary’s expected currency when you hold that wallet.
- Ask the beneficiary whether their bank charges for incoming foreign wires.
- Supply any required purpose-of-payment wording for regulated corridors.
- Allow extra time for payments involving multiple intermediary banks.
- Review fees and FX disclosure on the confirmation screen before you submit.
